Responsibilities

*Candidates must be currently located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US (NC, SC, MD, VA, DC)

 

This position is responsible for underwriting and servicing surety risks within an established territory. This position will be responsible for extending underwriting decisions that are in line with established underwriting guidelines and letters of authority. This position will interface regularly with the VP of Surety regarding the underwriting of bond submissions and will be responsible for effectively servicing agency relationships within its territory.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and underwrite new business while protecting the interests of the company
  • Service existing agency relationships within established territory of North & South Carolina, or Virginia, Washington, DC & Maryland
  • Complete underwriting review on new and existing accounts and establish terms and conditions within authority
  • Refer accounts above established authority to higher authority within field or home office with recommended action
  • Maintain and update account and bond files with current information per underwriting guidelines
  • Provide excellent customer service that distinguishes us from our competitors

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • College degree in business/finance or related field preferred
  • Two years minimum surety underwriting experience

Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced organizational and analytical skills as well as attention to details
  • Solid understanding of financial and accounting principals
  • Strong interpersonal and social skills
  • Personal computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat

Knowledge:

  • Background in contract surety underwriting with the ability to conduct appropriate risk selection and recommendation of terms and conditions
  • Ability to analyze contractor’s financial profiles essential for evaluating risk
  • Must have familiarity with financial statements and knowledge of contractor’s basic terminology, regulatory requirements, and bid processes.
  • Ability to understand and utilize company underwriting software 

Compensation & Benefits

 

The applicable base salary for this opportunity is $105,000 - $185,000.  The base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements.  In addition to the base salary, this opportunity may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
