Responsibilities

The position of an Senior Underwriter is to manage the administration of a production underwriting team.  You will work closely with agents and your team to process renewals and business activities that support marketing and underwriting decisions.  You will be managing assigned accounts and be responsible for profitable underwriting results.  This position is specific to our Construction Division.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

 

  • Gathers information from retail agents and Underwriting Assistants in order to determine the degree of risk by examining application forms, inspection reports, and historical loss information.
  • Evaluates applicant factors by reviewing applicant financial standing, age, occupation, accident experience, and value and condition of property.
  • Determines terms, conditions, and complex rating plans.
  • Ability to offer coverage, terms and conditions which generate a profit for the Company while meeting the needs of the customer.
  • Understand loss trends, loss triangles and rate making.
  • Properly classifying and pricing risks as well as evaluating commercial business for risk acceptability and renewal retention.
  • Develop and manage departmental operating budget. Take corrective action to guarantee that the process of achievement of objectives falls within designated budgets.
  • Is responsible for the overall direction, training, development and evaluation of department staff; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
  • Promote a culture of personal responsibility/accountability and open communications. 
  • Ensure fair and ethical policies and practices in all relationships and operations.
  • Other duties as may be assigned as the business continues to develop.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years or more of solid commercial underwriting experience;
  • Required experience specifically in Construction Underwriting (Heavy Construction, Crane, Rigging, Excavation, etc).
  • Certificates or Licenses as required by regulatory entities.
  • Relevant professional designations or claims-specific certifications highly desirable.

Compensation & Benefits

 

The applicable base salary for this opportunity is $135,000 - $185,000.  The base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements.  In addition to the base salary, this opportunity may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
