Responsibilities

Position Purpose:

The position of a Sr. Underwriter is to manage the administration of a profitable book of Oil and Gas risks.  You will work closely with agents and your team to underwrite new and renewal business.  You will be managing assigned accounts and be responsible for profitable underwriting results.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Gathers information from retail agents and Underwriting Assistants in order to determine the degree of risk by examining application forms, inspection reports, and historical loss information.
  • Evaluates applicant factors by reviewing applicant financial standing, age, occupation, accident experience, and value and condition of property.
  • Determines terms, conditions, and complex rating plans which generate a profit for the Company while meeting the needs of the customer.
  • Understand loss trends, loss triangles and rate making.
  • Properly classifying and pricing risks as well as evaluating commercial business for risk acceptability and renewal retention.
  • Promote a culture of personal responsibility/accountability and open communications.  
  • Ensure fair and ethical policies and practices in all relationships and operations.
  • Keep informed of industry issues and insurance marketplace news that would contribute to the success of the company’s goals and objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree with a minimum of 10 years underwriting experience with at least 5 years in the Oil & Gas Sector OR 
  • A minimum of 10 years of underwriting experience in the Oil & Gas Sector.  
  • Professional designation is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, agents, and vendors.
  • Ability to utilize PC software and proprietary company systems.
  • Ability to project a warm and friendly manner in all business contacts and maintain a professional relationship with fellow workers, agency contacts, and the general public.
